Preston programme (21 October 1972) reports John Vernon recently signed as an amateur and is playing his second game tonight.
Barrow programme (3 February 1973) reports Vernon was included in the Stockport FA Youth side last week when they beat Northwich at Cheadle Heath.
Chester programme (25 April 1973) reports the Lancashire League Championship looks likely to be going to County. In the last 18 months Jim Mulvaney has done so much for the team. He is a hard taskmaster but has done a grand job. It has been good to see the emergence of Crowther and Keyes along with young players like Vernon getting into the side.
Advertiser (7 Jun 1973) reports County will take on 15-year-old John Vernon of High Lane as their third apprentice. The current two are Steve Crowther and Jimmy Golder.
Advertiser (19 Jul 1973) reports John Vernon of High Lane has signed as an apprentice.
In November 1975 he was released as the squad was too large.
