Advertiser (13 Jul 1934) reports trainer-manager Fred Westgarth has signed goalkeeper John Leslie Cant and outside-right or centre-forward Joseph Sidney Urwin. Urwin is the same age and is just 5' 7.5" tall. Born in High Spen Newcastle-upon-Tyne he has been with Bradford City, Chesterfield and Lincoln City for one season each.
Southport programme (25 Aug 1934). Joseph Sidney Urwin, an outside right or centre forward-Urwin has played for Bradford City, Chesterfield and Lincoln City. He was with the latter club last season. Born at High Spen, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. he is 22 years of age.
Advertiser (19 Oct 1934) reports in the win over league Leaders Darlington Urwin was selected in place of Lythgoe and showed distinct promise of developing into a really first class pivot. With just a little luck he would have scored despite being up against a strong centre-half in Darlington's Strong.
Advertiser (30 Nov 1934) reports that Urwin has physique, speed and a strong shot. With more confidence he could be a useful player. His chief fault is that he will not go on his own when he gets a forward pass. Instead of trying to beat the backs he passes back instead.
Advertiser (3 May 1935) reports the cases of Stevenson, Betton and Urwin will be taken under consideration as they are all on the injured list.
Advertiser (2 Aug 1935) reports S Urwin, A Betton and J Stevenson were all on the injured list at the end of last season and are receiving compensation under the League's insurance scheme.
Advertiser (9 Aug 1935) reports Urwin was injured against Bradford and never played again.
Advertiser (1 Nov 1935) reports Sydney Urwin has resumed training after the cartilage operation that resulted from his injury in the FA Cup replay with Bradford last season.
Advertiser (22 Nov 1935) reports County have permission to play Urwin in the friendly against Millwall.
Advertiser (29 Nov 1935) reports Betton, Stevenson and Urwin are still on compensation. Syd Urwin is back in action at Outside-Right. If found fit he will probably be signed on by County.
Advertiser (6 Dec 1935) reports Urwin stood the test well against Millwall. It would be unfair to strike his very best form but he showed promise of a nearly return to form.
Advertiser (10 Jan 1936) reports Urwin made his first competitive appearance for many months in the 3-0 win over Prescot Cables.
Advertiser (24 Jan 1936) reports Stevenson and Urwin are to return to the first team on Saturday for the first tine since their injuries 12 months ago.
