A fans favourite in the 1904-05 non league season they were distraught after protracted negotiations saw Tom end his first spell at County when sold to Middlesbrough. Fortunately he was to return three years later to lead the line again. Tom was described as seemingly able to find the net when others fail - he drew a blank in one game after leaving his boots in a tea room at St Helens. SCAN 127
