Jack Bowles

Playing position Goalkeeper
First County match 27 Aug 1938, A New Brighton 0-0
Last County match 31 Jan 1953, H Crewe Alex 2-4

Tiger Bowles made 162 appearances for County in the 40s. He was a survivor from the pre-war years after joining from Accrington Stanley. Jack is reported to have picked up his nickname due to his habit of bobbing nervously on his line; often described as prowling. This fearless, agile and very consistent keeper built a reputation for saving penalties. He also qualifies for the 50s team but we've placed him in the 40's as he missed just 6 County games all decade. SCAN 478
